In a touching display of empathy, a Corgi named Bella provided solace to a man mourning the loss of his beloved pet at Seattle Airport. Dog owners can attest to the incredible bond they share with their furry companions. Dogs are not only loyal and intelligent but also possess an innate ability to sense our emotions, often showing up just when we need them most.
Chris Miller, a 24-year-old dog owner from Boise, Idaho, was preparing to embark on a trip to visit family in Alaska. Accompanying him was Bella, his Corgi, who is also training to be a therapy dog. During a lengthy layover, Bella wandered over to a man sitting alone, instinctively sensing his need for comfort.
As Chris recounted in a Facebook post, “Bella quietly trotted away from me and snuggled right up to a complete stranger.” The man began to pet Bella and mentioned how adorable she was, even capturing a photo of her. However, it was the man’s next revelation that left Chris in awe of Bella’s intuitive nature. “He shared with us that he lost his dog just the night before. I’ve always believed that Bella has a gift for sensing when someone is in pain or needs companionship,” Chris expressed.
Bella continued to sit by the man’s side, bringing him a moment of peace amidst his sorrow. “I asked him if she was bothering him,” Chris recounted. “With tears in his eyes, he replied, ‘No, not at all. I lost my dog last night.’”
Chris had rescued Bella the previous summer after learning from a friend about a family looking to rehome her. She had been neglected, underfed, and had never seen a vet. Despite her rough beginnings, Chris noted that Bella’s loving spirit shone through from day one. “She just wants affection and to be held. Wherever I am, she’s right by my side, and if I’m unavailable, she finds the next best lap,” he shared.
Pets are undeniably part of our families, offering joy and unconditional love while asking for very little in return. It’s truly heartbreaking to witness someone lose their loyal companion. In that moment, Bella provided a glimmer of comfort to the grieving man, which is a beautiful testament to the power of animals to heal.
“She is a natural therapy dog in every sense,” Chris said. “I feel so fortunate to have her in my life.”
