When you check your camera roll or scroll through your social media, what do you find? If you’re a mom, it’s likely filled with beautiful images of your kids—and plenty of moments capturing your partner with them. But often, what’s glaringly absent are the photos of you alongside your little ones.
Lily, a well-known pop star, has recently echoed this sentiment in a humorous Instagram post that many mothers can relate to. In a light-hearted video, her husband, Jake, is seen cuddling their one-year-old son, Max. In the caption, Lily jokes about needing to be included more in family snapshots. “At least one of the kids is enjoying themselves while the other is busy spreading germs,” she quips. “And don’t worry, the safety captain is making sure everyone is buckled up while I document this moment. Happy 2023!”
She then goes on to subtly remind Jake, “I hope one of @jakeloveslily’s resolutions is to photograph his wife more often. Just so people know I’m actually here. Carry on.” Preach it, sister! If Lily is anything like the rest of us, she may even insist on deleting any photos that don’t meet her approval. Just last summer, after voicing my own frustrations about the lack of pictures with my kids, my husband snapped a few. “My arm looks like a roast chicken, delete that one,” I said after viewing his well-intentioned efforts.
Let’s face it, getting good family photos is not an easy task. But trust me, the effort pays off. A quick peek at Jake’s Instagram reveals a plethora of pictures featuring their daughter, Ella, and young Max, while Lily is noticeably underrepresented.
Lily’s desire to be featured more prominently in family photos is spot on. One day, those images will hold immense value to her children. Even if your instinct is to shy away from the camera, remember to embrace those moments. Be in the damn picture. You’ll be grateful later.
Let’s hope Jake takes note of Lily’s message and makes 2023 the year she appears more frequently on his social media. For more tips on family planning, check out our post on at-home insemination kits here. And for additional information on insemination methods, this resource is excellent.
In summary, even celebrities struggle with capturing family memories. So, don’t hesitate to jump into those photos with your kids. It’s worth it!
