As a mom, I cherish the moments spent with my daughter while indulging in face masks and scrolling through Pinterest; it’s a delightful way to unwind. Recently, my teenage son decided to join us, but his experience was far from pleasant. He struggled through the whole process, nearly throwing a fit when the mask tightened, darting upstairs to declare, “Why do you put yourself through this?”
Kudos to YouTuber Bella M, who hilariously captures the essence of our clay mask experiences in her uproarious video, “The 5 Stages of Wearing a Clay Mask.” It’s truly a relatable depiction of our struggles.
We’ve all endured those days when life feels overwhelmingly challenging, and we just want to escape. Bella kicks off her video by addressing those moments when the weight of adulting feels unbearable: “Every bill showed up today. Why does everything cost so much? I even have to pay to take a bath!”
We may feel a sense of hopelessness, but the moment we reach for that clay mask, we’re clinging to the hope of instant results to regain some control. Sure, I might be short on cash, but at least I can achieve cleaner pores.
As Bella humorously states, “I can’t face the world, but I can apply a face mask that promises to transform my life.” Absolutely!
With blue clay slathered across her face and neck, she proclaims, “I’m a fierce and empowered woman with my life together!” We can all relate to that sentiment—until the fun turns into discomfort. The mask tightens, begins to sting, and suddenly we’re fantasizing about submerging our heads in a soothing bath of cucumbers and aloe. But we convince ourselves that the burning sensation is a sign it’s working.
As Bella yells, “That’s cleansing my pores,” she sounds empowered until the discomfort becomes too much, forcing her to hastily wash it off. Then comes the classic lie we all tell ourselves: “Beauty is pain!”
As the irritation persists, she vows never to use that mask again, tossing the tube into the trash. I can’t count how many times I’ve echoed that very sentiment, especially when my face feels stiffer than an old sock left under a teenager’s bed.
Perhaps we’re not doing it right. My skin-care enthusiast friend suggests spritzing my face during the process to prevent it from drying out too much, but, meh, as Bella would say, beauty is pain.
The video wraps up with her declaring, “I am young and radiant. Here I come, world!” We’ve all been there, feeling rejuvenated after a mask reveals a brighter, firmer complexion—even if it’s just for the fleeting moment. That’s why we keep applying these masks whenever life gets tough. If we’re going to navigate the chaos, we might as well do it with glowing skin.
