In a tribute to International Women’s Day, Barbie has introduced a doll inspired by Eleanor Roosevelt, one of the most impactful figures of the 20th century. Roosevelt is notably the only First Lady to be immortalized with a Barbie doll in the “Inspiring Women” series.

Dressed in a floral-patterned dress, a pearl necklace, and a chic black hat, the Eleanor Roosevelt doll was launched just ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, a day dedicated to celebrating women’s achievements across various fields.
“Barbie takes pride in honoring Eleanor Roosevelt as the latest addition to our Inspiring Women series. Her lifelong advocacy for others has empowered countless individuals to raise their voices,” Barbie shared on social media.
Eleanor Roosevelt’s Legacy
Eleanor Roosevelt served as First Lady from 1933 to 1945 and was an influential figure during her husband, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s, administration. She authored six books, penned thousands of articles, and held weekly press conferences aimed at women journalists to amplify her messages. A dedicated humanitarian, she later became a United Nations diplomat, chaired the UN Human Rights Commission, and played a crucial role in drafting the 1948 United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.

The Inspiring Women Series
Barbie initially launched the “Inspiring Women” series in 2018, featuring pioneering women like Amelia Earhart, Frida Kahlo, and Katherine Johnson. In addition to introducing the Eleanor Roosevelt doll, Barbie is launching its inaugural digital series, “Barbie You Can Be Anything,” which also spotlights female role models. The series premiere, titled “Your Voice,” is set to air at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT today.
The “Barbie You Can Be Anything” series promises to be an engaging workshop focused on activism and the positive use of one’s voice for meaningful causes. The first episode will feature discussions with female activists of all ages, including Emma Carter, Lila Johnson, and Mia Thompson, along with a special performance by DJs Amira & Kayla.
