This ‘Challenging Feline’ Needs a Home ASAP

Mr. Fluffykins the cat is on the lookout for a new family—if you think you can handle him.

Even the most dedicated pet rescue organizations can hit their breaking point. This might explain the blunt and candid adoption listing for one Mr. Fluffykins, also known as His Royal Fluffiness.

The Cat Rescue Society of Melbourne is known for its “Welfare • Advocacy • Support – for rescued cats and their caretakers” in Australia. However, they seem to have run out of patience for Mr. Fluffykins, as his adoption ad is nothing short of legendary. It boldly states that he is “a challenging feline…a tyrant and a ruler.” Sounds about right for most cats, doesn’t it?

Gina Brown, the founder of the Cat Rescue Society of Melbourne, authored this straightforward description—and honestly, good for her! Future pet owners ought to know what they’re getting into, especially since cats can be quite cunning. If Mr. Fluffykins senses a potential rescue in sight, he might just charm them with his best behavior. They could be in for a surprise once he settles in at home.

Gina made sure to highlight the realities of adopting Mr. Fluffykins. “He is not fond of being told ‘no.’ Expect a feline tantrum if he can’t go outside when he desires (and trust me, there were plenty of outbursts during his initial weeks at his caretaker’s home!). Being fed late? That’s another trigger for his protests.”

Oh, and you might experience a bit of biting if you don’t meet his expectations. “If he’s displeased with your actions, he might give you a nip!”

Or if you don’t stroke him just right. “Mr. Fluffykins prefers his cuddles on his terms, and he’ll join you on the couch when he feels like it. If your petting style doesn’t meet his standards, expect a nip!”

And if you happen to wander too close to him? “Sometimes he’ll swipe at your feet. It really just depends on what’s within his reach.”

This cat means business!

I won’t lie; I had to double-check that I was reading about a cat and not my own toddler. He too “likes his cuddles on his terms.”

Despite the fierce name “His Royal Fluffiness” being a fun option for my child (I’ve already been vetoed by my partner), one look at the picture accompanying the listing shows he is indeed a cat—and a striking one at that.

He does possess some redeeming qualities. He “allows kisses on his glossy black head when he’s in a good mood…enjoys being involved in your activities (which likely means he’ll perch on your keyboard while you work), and he’s “incredibly healthy” (Is it odd that after reading this ad, I’m tempted to adopt Gina Brown?).

As of this writing, Mr. Fluffykins is reportedly “on hold,” which hopefully indicates that someone out there has what it takes to provide this spirited kitty with the home he craves.

Prospective adopters should heed the closing advice in the description: “Mr. Fluffykins is not suitable for inexperienced or faint-hearted individuals. He’s a full-blooded tomcat with strict boundaries.”

Once again, sounds a lot like my toddler—but at least my child doesn’t come with claws. Although, unfortunately, he seems to enjoy biting just as much as Mr. Fluffykins.
