Hey Sarah,
I just wanted to express my gratitude for the playdate at my place today. My son had a blast playing with your daughter, and he’s already excited about their next get-together outside of school. However, I feel like I need to clear the air about something that’s been on my mind since you left.
Clearing the Air
When I invited you over for a playdate, I didn’t expect us to engage in the activities with the kids. Typically, when I invite a mom and her child, I mean for the kids to entertain themselves while we retreat to another room to vent about life’s little craziness. It’s not that I don’t love spending time with my child; it’s just that sometimes, I crave a break.
You seem to be a “hands-on” parent, while I lean more towards a “let them figure it out” approach. Honestly, with all the responsibilities we juggle—feeding, clothing, and driving our kids—do we really need to supervise them constantly? This is where technology comes into play. Isn’t that what iPads and Xboxes are for? I even had Netflix ready just in case they needed a little downtime from their outdoor adventures. Having another mom around is a delightful change of pace for me; it allows for actual adult conversation instead of the usual topics of superheroes and animal anatomy.
Delicious Treats and Creative Play
By the way, the homemade banana bread you brought was absolutely divine! I must give you a round of applause for your baking prowess; it was a lovely surprise since I had planned to toss some popcorn in a bowl and turn on the hose for snack time.
Your creativity also shone through when you turned my backyard into a dinosaur excavation site. The kids really seemed to enjoy that. I hope you didn’t mind me snapping some pics on my phone while you kept them entertained—I just needed a moment to recharge.
Future Playdates
Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, I have some ideas for our next playdate. We could hang out in the kitchen and gossip about the other moms at school or share a glass of wine while discussing everything Kardashian-related. If that doesn’t sound appealing, how about we binge-watch an episode of the Real Housewives of Atlanta together? They feel like the friends I never knew I needed!
You come across as a fabulous mom, and I can see our friendship blossoming into happy hours, girls’ weekends in Vegas, or double date nights with our partners. I’d love to plan another get-together and, just a friendly reminder, let’s aim for some adult time while the kids play elsewhere in the house. If you’re up for hosting the next playdate, I’d be happy to bring the wine!
