I’m The Other ‘F Word,’ And It’s Absolutely Amazing by Lisa Grayson

I’m all about the F-word and trust me, it’s not the one you’re thinking of. It’s way better: Friend. Fierce. Fabulous. Fearless. Forty-seven.
However, you won’t often see someone like me represented on screen. Sure, there might be a mention of an older mom or a midlife mother, but they’re typically portrayed as hapless overachievers who’ve lost their way. Nonsense. I call complete nonsense on that.
As a proud middle-aged mom at 47, I’ve earned every wrinkle, sag, and bulge. I’m not a fresh-faced 29-year-old prancing around in Uggs, nursing a Starbucks with 2.5 picture-perfect kids. Okay, the Starbucks part might hold true, but only because I’m usually grabbing Dunkin’ on the way—more affordable and less pretentious.
I didn’t get to this point by being timid. We lead real lives. I’ve successfully homeschooled two teens through high school, navigated all sorts of challenges alongside them, kept my husband afloat during corporate upheavals, and I still manage to be hilarious. Plus, I cherish time with my girlfriends, those rare moments when we can truly be ourselves—if we can even recall who that is.
We often get so wrapped up in our roles as moms and wives that we forget to reclaim our identities. I recently watched The Other F Word on Amazon and laughed so hard that, well, let’s just say my age is showing! One character, Sherry the Lyft driver, resonated with me deeply; I’m just like her when I’m driving—ready to take on the road’s jerks while ensuring safety. I found myself chuckling and nodding along, though some of the “never-have-I-evers” were a bit shocking. The show boldly tackles topics like menopause and, yes, even vibrators.
“The best customers at my home sex toy party were all over 40. Let’s be real: we know what we want, and we’re not shy about pursuing it. Plus, we have the budget to indulge!”
What I admire most about this series is that director Mia Thompson was told by industry insiders—yes, even women—that there was no market for content featuring midlife women. Undeterred, she self-funded the project and released it on Amazon. The result? Over a million views for Season 1 and more than 80,000 views in just one month for Season 2. Funny enough, those same insiders insisted women over 40 don’t stream shows. Talk about a big middle finger to them!
I have another F-word for those naysayers: Fearless.
According to She-conomy, women make over 85% of consumer product purchases, spanning everything from cars to health care. It’s high time to stop guessing what we want and start delivering real narratives about real women. The Other F Word offers short, free episodes on Amazon that do just that.

In summary, being a middle-aged mom is not only empowering, it’s downright thrilling. We’re here, we’re fierce, and we’re taking charge of our narratives!
Keyphrase: Midlife empowerment
