To All the Moms Who Feel Worn Out Before the Day Starts

Here’s to the reality of juggling motherhood and work:

Just finished getting my three kids ready for school solo, as my partner is off on a trip. The morning chaos was nothing short of a circus. Sound familiar?

First, I had to wake everyone up after hitting the snooze button several times. After convincing them it really was a school day, breakfast was the next hurdle. We went through cereal, toast, and eggs—oh, and let’s not forget the tea! I had to wash extra spoons because somehow those always go missing.

Forms signed, lunch money stuffed in envelopes (and yes, I managed to find some quarters—score!), and endless discussions about dinosaurs, the latest TikTok trends, and the art of making the perfect sandwich.

I played referee over hairbrushes, shoes, and bathroom time. Packed lunches, complete with cold packs to keep them safe—thank goodness, no ice in baggies this time! #win. I even found that elusive sock and the flannel shirt that somehow vanished. Talked one kid down from a meltdown over “wrong shorts.”

After reviewing after-school activities, I reminded them to be careful on the way to the bus and cheered as they headed out. I even timed my son standing on one foot, as he requested. Hugs were given out like candy to my daughter, who was feeling sad about her outfit choice.

And now, it’s time for me to head to work. The mess behind me will be waiting after a long day at the office, where I’ll juggle dinner prep, homework help, and after-school snacks. If you’re a fellow mom, chances are you’re in the same boat.

Here’s to all those moms who manage to accomplish so much before 8:30 a.m. And here’s a shoutout to stay-at-home moms wrangling little ones while trying to tackle the same mess. We’re in this together, and yes, some days it looks like a tornado hit the house.

I know this chaos won’t last forever; one day we’ll be in tidy kitchens or enjoying the peace of a quiet home. And I hear we’ll miss these messy days. The crumbs, laundry piles, cereal bowls, and stray socks are proof of love and life.

So today, I choose to embrace the chaos, letting go of the stress that comes with trying to be perfect. It’s impossible to maintain spotless homes, excel at work, and raise perfectly behaved kids all at once. We’ll experience bits of each, and that’s perfectly okay.

Above all, there’s so much love intertwined in that mess behind me. Just look at this note I found today from my kids. It’s a reminder of why I do all this—the joy they bring far outweighs the mess. And who knows, when they grow taller, they might even express gratitude for all those chaotic moments.

We’re in this together, my friends. Even if our countertops look like a disaster zone!
