A Request for Morning Peace

Dear Partner,

Each morning, you venture out into the world, working diligently to provide for our family. Your dedication allows me to stay home with our children and manage my own work. I truly appreciate the long hours and effort you put in to ensure our comfort and security. Thank you for that.

However, there’s one small favor I need to ask. Could you please turn off your alarm clock in the morning? I understand that you’re fatigued—neither of us has had a good night’s sleep since the kids arrived. But let’s be real: it’s not my fault that you stayed up late watching videos instead of getting some rest. And I certainly can’t be blamed for your decision to drink four glasses of water before bed, leading to multiple trips to the bathroom throughout the night.

I can tolerate it when your alarm goes off once. You hit snooze, and I can often manage to fall back asleep. But then it blares again, and again, creating a cycle that fills me with frustration. This disturbance can ruin my sleep for days—especially if I’m driven to consider drastic measures against your alarm clock. Sometimes, on those rare occasions when the kids don’t wake me at the crack of dawn, I cherish those extra moments of sleep, which are shattered by the classic rock blaring from your side of the bed multiple times before you finally get up.

Let’s not forget how the kids join us in bed nearly every night. You know how cranky they can get when woken before they’re ready—much like their mother. When you don’t rise promptly with your alarm, they wake up too, and then I’m the one who suffers. It creates a chaotic morning for all of us, while you happily head off to work.

Have you considered how much sleep you might gain by simply setting your alarm for a little later and getting up the first time it rings? I’m not here to serve as your wake-up call or to provide comforting nudges to get you out of bed. I’m just a person who hasn’t enjoyed a restful night in years, wishing for a bit of peace in the morning.

You feel better when you get up promptly, and so does everyone else in the house. Please, for the sake of my sanity and the well-being of our children, let’s make this happen. If you love us, stop hitting the snooze button so many times.
