Dear Future Me

Hey there, fabulous 40-year-old! Remember those days when you strutted into that pool party sporting a G-string bikini? You may have felt a bit shy, keeping your backside pressed against the wall, but you rocked that suit! Fast forward to today, and let’s just say my current swimsuit choices have me looking less like a swimmer and more like I’m carrying around an awkward load.

So, what did I do? I embarked on the dreaded mission of swimsuit shopping. All I wanted was a classic Speedo, but with no clue about my size, I grabbed a few options and entered the infamous dressing room of dread.

With the plan to be quick—clothes off, suit on, and if it fit, I’d be out of there—I found myself bent over, trying to wiggle into the bathing suit bottom, when suddenly, an alarm blared. It was loud and relentless, causing me to jump and wonder if I had inadvertently triggered some sort of “butt patrol.” Was my jiggly behind that offensive?

After a few bewildered moments, I realized the noise was coming from my phone—an Amber alert. While I felt sympathy for the situation, I was relieved that my pose hadn’t sent anyone into shock.

Without wasting another second, I quickly got dressed, paid for the suit, and left the store. Sure, this new suit isn’t nearly as daring as the one from that unforgettable pool party, but I’m still wearing a swimsuit! If I could rewind time, I’d embrace my body more confidently, showing it off with pride.

Listen, I want you to embrace your body, imperfections and all. Yes, gravity will leave its mark—a little droop here, a little drop there—but your body will also dance at weddings, paddleboard in Mexico, and carry exhausted children. It will experience days when it barely wants to get out of bed and others that seem to last forever.

I know it’s not a flawless figure, but it’s yours, and it fits you just right. No “buts” about it!
