10 Ways Moms Will Mess Up (And That’s Okay)

Last week was a whirlwind, and I completely spaced on taking my kids to the art show at preschool. Oops! In my earlier mom days, I would have spiraled into guilt over it. But I’ve come to terms with the fact that mistakes happen.

We all mess up, and that’s part of the journey. Your kids will be just fine, and chances are they won’t even remember those little slip-ups. So, if you’re feeling guilty, take a breather. You’re definitely not alone in this.

Every mom will, at some point, experience at least one of the following blunders:

  1. Forgetting about that cash under the pillow for the Tooth Fairy. If tonight’s your night, just remind your child that sometimes the Tooth Fairy leaves the treasure under the bed. They’ll get over it—especially once the Tooth Fairy finally arrives. Spoiler: sometimes she’s a little late!
  2. Missing the pick-up for your child. Your kid will be alright. Just know that the other parents waiting to go home might be more annoyed than your child.
  3. Completely missing a game because you showed up at the wrong time. Your child might give you the silent treatment for a while, but they’ll bounce back.
  4. Committing to bring snacks for the class party and then totally forgetting. No worries—there’s usually plenty of junk food at those parties.
  5. Skipping the award ceremony only to discover later that your child snagged the “Most Awesome Kid in the History of Ever” award. When they finally get the recognition, they won’t even care that you weren’t there.
  6. Missing the game where your child scored the winning goal or broke a school record. Fingers crossed someone captured it on video!
  7. Sending your child to school despite them saying they’re not feeling well, only to pick them up an hour later after they’ve gotten sick. At least you missed the clean-up!
  8. Forgetting to meet the bus after school, leaving your child alone with the bus driver. After a few times, the driver might just start bringing snacks for your little one.
  9. Telling your daughter her arm is just bruised, then finding out later it was broken a week ago. But hey, that bright pink cast will make her feel special!
  10. Completely overlooking that birthday party for your child’s classmate. Thank your lucky stars—those parties can be exhausting!
