I discovered I was expecting in February 1992, the same day I resigned from my position as a young attorney to take on the role of Deputy State Director for the Bill Clinton presidential primary campaign in Massachusetts. Once Bill secured the nomination, I transitioned to become the Issues Director in Massachusetts, all while experiencing a significant pregnancy. Our daughter, Lucy, arrived just two days before Bill was elected in November 1992. I was even pumping during the 36-hour event in Washington, D.C., for the inauguration a few months later.
Fast forward to today, Lucy, now nearly 24, is making her mark in Brooklyn as part of Hillary for America’s digital advertising team. Throughout her teenage years, Lucy and I spent countless autumn afternoons in New Hampshire during election seasons, holding signs and canvassing door-to-door, engaging with voters. She contributed to Obama’s 2012 campaign after her freshman year of college, and when she expressed the desire to lighten her course load to continue working at the headquarters in Chicago, I was more than happy to support her. When Hillary Clinton announced her presidential run, Lucy felt compelled to join the effort.
I vividly recall my first meeting with Hillary in 1992.
