Yet, the design of most swimsuits—often featuring an audaciously high cut—suggests that you have presented women with a perplexing dilemma: either hide the pubes or let them be visible for all to see.
I’ve attempted both approaches, and neither has yielded satisfactory results. I’m in search of alternatives.
Please refrain from suggesting swimsuits with skirts. That would be an affront to my dignity. I was once a competitive swimmer, capable of racing across a pool in seconds performing a butterfly stroke, a feat that demands more upper body strength than much of the fashion industry can muster.
Consider my self-respect. Despite the challenges of motherhood—particularly the physical changes that have accompanied childbirth—I still hold my dignity dear. I enjoy swimming, immersing myself in water deeper than I am, feeling rejuvenated both physically and spiritually. I don’t need a swimsuit skirt complicating my experience.
And do not think renaming it a “sarong” will make it any better.
I acknowledge that I am now a woman of a certain age, much like pubic hair itself—no pretense here. I’m weary of pretending to be hairless. Razors can’t provide a solution, and waxing? The pain and the ethics of spending money on such a procedure are daunting, to say the least. When I finally decide to buy one of your swimsuits, and my pubic hair escapes its confines, I find it difficult to maintain eye contact with others.
It’s not solely about shame (though, admittedly, there’s a bit of that). It’s the unavoidable stares from everyone I encounter, from my well-meaning father-in-law to my new acquaintances at playdates. The reactions can range from shock to disbelief, and I’m left wondering what they think as they gaze at my exposed hair.
In conclusion, all I ask for is a swimsuit that respects my anatomy without resorting to outdated designs. A little more coverage in the V-zone would allow me to swim freely without the choice between irritation and embarrassment. Men seem to have it easier, right? Oops, I went there.
If the desires of women don’t concern you, consider the financial aspect; your market includes countless adult women who aren’t ready to don swimsuit skirts. Trust me, that’s a significant demographic.
