My 7-year-old son proudly identifies as a nerd. While nerd culture has become quite popular, I believe that even in a less accepting era, he would still enthusiastically embrace his passion for all things nerdy. Here are 11 signs that exemplify his delightful nerdiness:
- He consistently corrects anyone who mistakenly refers to the creature as “Frankenstein.” “Frankenstein is the doctor!” he insists. “The green guy with bolts is Frankenstein’s monster!”
- Recently, he told a friend’s father, “I might not excel in sports, but I am quite adept at archery.”
- His wardrobe often features a unique combination of a tie and a Newsies hat paired with one of his many comic book character T-shirts (which, by the way, are his only shirts).
- Rather than feeling insecure about his small stature, he proudly claims to be the only hobbit in his class.
- “If they ever decide to create an Aquaman film, it better be done right,” he declared.
- He affectionately named the wandering neighborhood cat “Crookshanks,” inspired by Hermione’s feline companion from Harry Potter.
- The only moment he displayed sadness while watching television occurred when his favorite contestant on a reality show called The Quest (inspired by The Lord of the Rings) was eliminated. He teared up and instantly defended himself, saying, “I’m not crying!”
- He even composed a rap that cleverly rhymes “Pekingese” with “allergies.”
- After re-watching Young Frankenstein (remember, “Frankenstein” refers to the doctor!), he raised his hand in class just like Inspector Kemp. Although he noted that no one acknowledged it, he still felt it was a comedic victory.
- For his school talent show, he performed impressions of Captain Kirk and the local weather forecaster, both of which sounded remarkably similar.
