While managing screen time for kids can be challenging, the ways technology simplifies daily life are undeniable. Here are some tasks that have become a breeze, thanks to modern advancements:

  1. Text Messaging
    Gone are the days when families with multiple children struggled to reconnect at amusement parks without cell phones. Communicating with babysitters has also transformed; no more phone tag or forgotten arrival times. Plus, group texts save time—would you really want to call every friend separately to plan a spontaneous happy hour? No thanks; I’d rather enjoy that time with a glass of wine.
  2. Online Bill Payments
    Remember the hassle of stamps, envelopes, and checks? Now, I love receiving email notifications confirming my bill payments. If only my computer could also handle my children’s never-ending registration and medical history forms!
  3. Library Book Renewals and Holds
    Many libraries now allow online book requests and send email alerts when items are ready for pickup. Instead of lugging a pile of books back to the library for renewals, I can do it all from my online account. Some libraries even have drive-up windows, which is simply genius!
  4. Drive-Thru Pharmacies
    Let’s take a moment to appreciate drive-thrus. After taking a sick child to the pediatrician, I no longer wait in a pharmacy with a miserable kid. The doctor can call in prescriptions, and I can pick them up without leaving the car. When will we get drive-thru grocery stores, though? That would be amazing!
  5. ATM Machines
    I wanted my kids to experience traditional banking, so I found a bank offering old-school passbook accounts. However, the lines and paperwork were time-consuming. Thank goodness for ATMs—especially drive-thru ones!
  6. GPS Navigation
    No more struggling with paper maps or trying to decipher crumpled directions. GPS technology has made finding locations much simpler—unless you’re in the mountains and lose signal, in which case, reading a map might still come in handy!
  7. Amazon Shopping
    I won’t deny my love for Amazon. While I support local businesses, sometimes life gets in the way, and I need a quick solution. Amazon Prime is my go-to for everything from birthday gifts to cat food.

So, what am I doing with all the time I’ve saved? Engaging in fulfilling activities, of course—though I may spend a little more time on social media than I should. See you online!
