I Banned the Paul Brothers from Our Home – Here’s Why

In our household, very few things are off-limits. We don’t impose restrictions on R-rated films or books with mature humor. There are no screen time limits or food bans, and I find myself unbothered when my kids occasionally use profanity—as long as it’s not mean-spirited and fits the context. However, there is one glaring exception: Jake Paul and Logan Paul. Or, as I prefer to refer to them, the “Entitled Duo.”

If you’re not the parent of a teen or pre-teen, consider yourself fortunate if you’ve managed to avoid hearing about these brothers until now. If you’re still unaware of Logan Paul’s notoriety following that shocking YouTube incident where he filmed a deceased person in a forest, count your blessings.

For those in the know, the Paul brothers gained fame through their attention-grabbing antics on the now-defunct platform Vine and have since transitioned to YouTube fame. Jake Paul even had a short-lived role on the Disney Channel’s “Bizaardvark,” where he became well-known for his self-centered brand of humor that frustrated many parents.

Long before Logan’s most heinous stunt, there were already numerous reasons to disapprove of them. Their arrogance oozes privilege and entitlement. While they may be seen as entrepreneurs capitalizing on modern media, their so-called “talents” offer little to society. Their careers are built around self-promotion and mockery, with Jake Paul audaciously claiming superiority over the media empire that helped him rise: “Even Disney—off the record, but on the record—knows that I have the power. They love me because of that.”

To make matters worse, Jake Paul has openly alienated his entire neighborhood, boasting, “The neighbors hate me.” When informed that residents had complained about the chaos surrounding his antics, he retorted, “I mean, but people like going to circuses, right?” Well, NO.

After enduring what felt like an eternity of my kids belting out Jake Paul’s obnoxious anthem, “Everyday Bro” (one of the most disliked videos on YouTube), I finally said ENOUGH! It wasn’t just their obnoxious behavior that made my stomach churn, but the damaging message they were sending to my sons—that being loud, self-absorbed, and rude is a ticket to fame, fortune, and influence. This is the last thing my kids need to internalize in our already toxic, patriarchal society.

So, a couple of months ago, I informed my children that Jake and Logan Paul were strictly off-limits in our house. No exceptions.

I’m not naive enough to believe that my kids won’t still chant their cringe-worthy YouTube slogans at school or catch their videos at friends’ homes. Of course, they will. But while they’re still young and my husband and I maintain some influence over them, our opinions carry weight—at least a little. I like to think that our generally relaxed approach toward things like R-rated content and screen time gives significance to this prohibition. It’s not just another arbitrary rule; it’s a firm stance against hate—of any kind. Not in our house, at least.
