8 Things I’m Over Because I’m Too Old and Tired for Nonsense

Becoming an adult often feels like an endless cycle of managing unnecessary chaos. And when you throw parenting into the mix? Forget it—those frustrations multiply exponentially.

You’ve got the obligatory challenges to face, like bills, daily responsibilities, and conference calls that eat into your precious time. Then comes the stuff we grumble about but do anyway for the sake of love—like spending an entire Sunday at a youth soccer match and watching your child miss goal after goal. But perhaps the most exhausting of all is the pointless clutter that infiltrates our lives, much like a backed-up sink.

I’ve reached my limit. It’s time to say goodbye to the nonsense. One of the greatest benefits of adulthood is having the power to say “no” to the trivial matters that drain our energy. We can choose what truly matters to us and let go of the junk that weighs us down.

Here’s what I’m completely over:

  1. Phony Friends
You know the type—the friend who always portrays a perfect life, never complains, and constantly shares how #blessed they are. If you can’t be honest about the struggles of parenting or admit to needing a break, I’m not interested in your surface-level friendship. We can be cordial, but real connections require authenticity.
  2. Humblebrags and Passive Aggression
Social media is flooded with subtle boasts and passive-aggressive remarks that make rolling my eyes a full-time job. If you can’t be straightforward, kindly keep your comments to yourself. I’m done with pettiness.
  3. Low-Fat Food
Life is too short for food that tastes like cardboard and leaves you feeling unsatisfied. Give me something real.
  4. Misinformation
Let’s face it: The news can be disheartening enough without adding fake stories into the mix.
  5. Social Media Drama
Can we all agree that the trend of soapbox rants filmed while driving has reached its limit? And the ALL CAPS shouting? That’s a hard pass. I already get enough yelling from my kids; I don’t need it online. Thankfully, I can easily click “Unfollow” to rid myself of the negativity that clutters my feed.
  6. Bigots
There’s no room for hate in my life. If you believe your race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion makes you superior to others, I don’t have time for your nonsense. Bye!
  7. Judgmental Parents
It seems that parenting and judgment go hand in hand these days. Let’s just agree that we’re all doing the best we can. I don’t need to add other people’s scrutiny to my self-doubt.
  8. Toxic Comments
I’m too old and busy to deal with ignorant comments. If you haven’t read the article, don’t bother commenting. If you’re going to spread misinformation or make snide remarks, kindly keep it to yourself. Simple as that.

The list of trivialities we encounter could go on, but I’m making a conscious effort to let go of the excess baggage. Our kids already fill up a good chunk of our emotional load, so we need to lighten the rest whenever possible.
