A trip for nursing bras turned into an unforgettable experience for one mom when she unexpectedly went into labor at Target. In an extraordinary twist of fate, a labor nurse from a nearby hospital was present and stepped in to assist with the delivery.
Talk about an unforgettable Target run!
We previously shared the story of a mom who took her maternity photos in a Target store, but this time, Tanya Greene’s encounter takes the cake. While she didn’t plan to give birth there, we can only hope she receives some generous coupons or free goodies from her favorite retailer.
Piedmont Healthcare shared a heartwarming story about their labor and delivery nurse, Sarah Thompson, who jumped into action when Tanya Greene went into active labor in the store. “An ordinary shopping trip quickly transformed into an extraordinary event,” they reported. “Sarah, who was shopping for shoes with her mother, helped deliver a healthy baby boy weighing 7 pounds, 10 ounces right at the entrance of the store.”
Imagine this: you’re mentally reciting your shopping list, and suddenly, you’re welcoming a newborn instead!
While shopping, Sarah’s mom, Lisa, noticed Tanya appearing unwell and suggested Sarah lend her expertise as a labor and delivery nurse. “My mom walked over and said, ‘Hey, you don’t look so good. Can I get my daughter? She’s a labor and delivery nurse,’” Lisa recalled. Tanya gladly accepted the offer.
Tanya, who initially was at Target to purchase nursing bras, ended up delivering her fourth child, Maleek. “I hadn’t realized I was in real labor,” she shared. “The contractions that had been an hour apart suddenly intensified as I made my way to the bra section.” Just 20 minutes after the contractions sped up, Maleek made his grand entrance.
Sarah admitted she didn’t expect the delivery to unfold so quickly. “When her water broke, it became clear we needed to act fast,” she explained. Together with her mom, they urged Tanya’s friend to bring the car around as they assisted her toward the exit. Just as they stepped outside, Tanya’s water broke.
“Sarah was truly a lifesaver,” Tanya praised. “She was incredibly kind and went above and beyond.” Now, their families are forming a beautiful friendship, with plans for future visits. “We feel fortunate to have shared this experience,” Lisa mentioned. “We’ve already met up with Tanya and her family and look forward to many more moments together!”
