The Royal Kids Show Their Playful Side at Today’s Trooping The Color Parade
You won’t want to miss these delightful photos of Oliver, Sophia, and Ethan.
by Mia Johnson June 2, 2022
The next generation of Royals made quite a splash at this year’s Trooping the Color Parade, as Oliver, 8, Sophia, 7, and Ethan, 4, displayed a whirlwind of emotions that only children can evoke. Kicking off a week of Jubilee celebrations honoring the Queen’s unprecedented 70-year reign and her 96th birthday, the balcony of Buckingham Palace was alive with laughter, especially thanks to little Ethan’s comical expressions.
Amidst the sounds of the Royal Air Force flying overhead, social media, particularly Twitter, erupted with laughter over images of Ethan covering his ears and shouting in delight, all while standing next to the Queen, Prince David, and his mother and sister.
What many might not realize is that Ethan was dressed in a vintage sailor suit that once belonged to his father, Prince William, 35 years ago. This charming outfit, complete with a sailor-style necktie, is not just a family heirloom but a piece of history, as Prince William wore the same ensemble for this very event back in 1985. You can even find a snapshot of young William alongside Zara Phillips and Lady Davina Windsor in that iconic outfit on the royal balcony, striking a similar pose.
How adorable is this moment? Now, let’s get back to the sass.
Oliver wasn’t the only one stealing the show. Sister Sophia also made her mark during the royal carriage procession. Riding alongside her mother, Kate Middleton, and her siblings, the trio waved to the crowd—until Sophia decided she’d had enough. She stopped waving, placed her hands neatly on her lap, and insisted her brothers should do the same, giving Ethan’s hand a little smack to get the message across. But he remained undeterred, continuing his royal duties with glee.
If this first event of the Jubilee week is any indication, this royal sibling trio has plenty more delightful moments in store, and the world is definitely watching. The Platinum Jubilee celebrates the incredible milestone of Queen Elizabeth, the first British Monarch to reign for 70 years, with a series of events taking place throughout the first week of June.
