A recent study reveals that new parents in the U.S. turn to Google for guidance more than 2,150 times in their baby’s first year. Conducted by OnePoll for CeraVe, the survey of 2,000 parents with children under two found that parents typically search for answers to up to nine different topics daily. Many parents experience worries about their infants around six times a day, frequently relying on the internet for support. Notably, 62% of respondents often consider how their choices will affect their child’s future.

Statistics on Early Parenting Challenges

The survey highlights various statistics regarding the challenges of early parenting. On average, parents spend over 1,600 hours holding their newborns, endure 77 sleepless nights, and make approximately 56 calls to their own parents and 67 to medical professionals in the first year alone.

Common Google Searches

As for those 2,000+ Google searches, the most common topics include inquiries about skin conditions and recommended infant products, both at 43%. Questions related to feeding (40%), reasons for crying (38%), and sleep issues (37%) also ranked high. A significant 71% of parents stated that they would have felt lost without access to parenting advice from experts online. Despite the struggles, nearly two-thirds view parenthood as one of their greatest accomplishments.

Favorite Activities with Babies

The survey also revealed parents’ favorite activities with their babies, such as applying lotion (42%), holding (39%), feeding (38%), and talking (38%). The cherished “firsts” included witnessing their baby’s first smile or laugh (36%) and engaging with toys (34%).

Encouragement for New Parents

One encouraging takeaway is that 47% of parents wished they could reassure their earlier selves that they were doing well, even amidst feelings of chaos. About 46% would tell their past selves that it’s perfectly normal not to have all the answers when caring for a newborn. So, if you find yourself Googling parenting questions, remember: you’re far from alone!
