Derek Martin and Lisa Gray, beloved stars of the home renovation world, are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first child. Earlier this year, they celebrated with a stunning baby shower reminiscent of their HGTV roots. Recently, Martin shared touching photos from an intimate maternity shoot that captures their journey into parenthood. “Our anniversary will take on a new meaning this year. The couple’s love story began in 2010 during a fashion event in Toronto, where Gray was dressed as a member of the “fashion police.” “She was wearing a huge badge and handing out tickets for ‘bad fashion,’” Martin reminisced. “When I saw her, I thought, ‘Wow, she’s stunning!’ Plus, she had this incredible personality.”
After six years of dating, Martin proposed with a whimsical Dr. Seuss cake and a heartfelt serenade of Train’s “Marry Me.” They tied the knot in 2018 and spent two years trying to conceive. The couple opened up about their fertility struggles, which included both IUI and IVF treatments, in their online publication, Reveal. “We never planned to wait this long. We just never took the steps to make it happen. We thought it would occur naturally, but it didn’t. After years of discussing our desire for kids, it was time to take action,” Martin reflected during a candid conversation with Gray about their experiences.
“When it comes to IVF, I wish someone had told me about the supportive community out there,” Gray shared. “That’s what I leaned on the most and valued greatly.” “I had no idea so many people faced hardships on their path to parenthood,” Martin added. “Realizing that others endure similar challenges helped us feel less alone and encouraged us to connect with that community.”
