Brooklyn Decker may just have the most devoted best friend around. There are certain favors we reserve for our closest companions, and then there’s the kind of favor that can only be asked of a best friend. Following the birth of her first son, Decker made a very personal request of her BFF, one that certainly fits into the latter category. The actress, who is married to tennis pro Andy Roddick, shared on the podcast “Becoming Mom” that she enlisted her best friend’s help for some post-delivery insight.

“My best friend came to see me the day I gave birth, and at that time, she didn’t have kids yet. I told her, ‘Jen, I can’t bear to look at [my vagina] because it might traumatize me forever, but I need someone to check it out,’” she confided to host Zoë Ruderman. “So, I took her to the bathroom, bent over, and asked her to take a look to let me know what was going on. I was overwhelmed by all the comments about stitches and everything else,” Decker recounted. We truly admire Jen for her unwavering support.

Postpartum Health Challenges

Decker also shared her postpartum health challenges after the arrival of her son Hank, who is now six years old. She candidly discussed her struggles with blood clots and other complications during recovery. “The clots started appearing, and my mom, who’s a nurse but not in labor and delivery, was like, ‘This isn’t normal in any other situation,’” Decker explained. “I saw them in the toilet and in the mesh diaper situation. The nurse assured me, ‘This is totally normal. If they get bigger than a golf ball, call me.’”

Additionally, she faced difficulties with breastfeeding that resulted in bleeding. “I remember during one feeding, Hank pulled away and had blood on his lip. I panicked, thinking, ‘What have I done? He’s going to get sick!’” she shared. “I called the pediatrician, and she reassured me, ‘That’s completely normal, don’t worry. Your body is just adjusting.’ But in that moment, it was so painful, and seeing blood on him made me feel like I was harming him.”
