Meet Tsehay Hawkins, The New Yellow Wiggle!

If you have a child under 10, you likely recognize Emma as the beloved Yellow Wiggle. Since stepping into the role from the original Wiggle Greg Page in 2013, Emma Watkins has redefined the Australian children’s group and inspired countless young girls. After nine incredible years, Emma is passing the baton to the talented Tsehay Hawkins, who is making history as the first Black woman to assume this role at just 15 years old.

Tsehay is not only a dynamic performer but also an award-winning dancer who has represented Australia on the world stage. With eleven Australian titles and four World titles in Latin and Commercial Dance under her belt, she is currently the Australian and World Youth Ladies Salsa and Urban Latin Champion.

My son, now eight, has been a devoted fan of The Wiggles since his toddler years, with Emma as the Yellow Wiggle being a constant in his life. We’ve attended three Wiggles concerts, and each experience has been a joyous celebration for both kids and their parents. Emma’s influence is evident, with many fans emulating her iconic style of yellow tops and black skirts, often adorned with vibrant bows.

“It’s really bittersweet,” Emma shared, reflecting on her transition. “I feel sad for the fans who have grown up with me, but I’m also excited to start a new chapter with all that I’ve learned over the past decade.”

Emma has had a profound impact on young fans, especially young girls, who look up to her. She made her debut in the “We’re All Fruit Salad” video and became a key member of the “Fruit Salad TV” series. When Emma chose to move on, Tsehay was the obvious choice to follow in her footsteps.

I can be like her!’ and that’s exactly what I hoped for,” she shared.

Emma, too, is looking ahead after passing the yellow skivvy. She plans to finish her Ph.D. and continue promoting Auslan, Australian sign language. Regardless of where their paths lead, both women are excited for this new beginning.

Tsehay will officially take on the role of Yellow Wiggle when The Wiggles hit the road next year, and we can’t wait for the fun to unfold!
