Caitlyn Jenner is in the running for the governor’s position in California, competing against Democratic incumbent Gavin Newsom. As a transgender individual, Jenner’s identity often complicates her alignment with Republican politics. Despite the GOP’s consistent efforts to undermine the rights of transgender individuals, Jenner has chosen to associate herself with the party, which hasn’t exactly embraced her.
Recently, at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas, Jenner encountered transphobic slurs when attendees deadnamed her and labeled her a “sick freak.” Even Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) displayed her transphobia by urging fellow Republicans to steer clear of Jenner.
In a surprising twist, self-proclaimed ally Tomi Lahren came to Jenner’s defense, but let’s be real. Lahren’s outrage is anything but genuine. She tweeted some hypocritical nonsense claiming to support Jenner, but her history shows she is no true ally.
As a transgender person who believes in social democracy, I have my disagreements with Jenner’s views on various issues affecting our community. However, I firmly believe she deserves respect for her gender identity, name, and pronouns. Disliking her politics doesn’t translate to disliking her identity. Yet, Lahren’s so-called support seems to stem from her discomfort with criticism rather than a genuine concern for the transgender community.
This is downright ridiculous. While Lahren attempted to play the role of a concerned ally, she didn’t take responsibility for her past harmful narratives. She failed to uplift transgender voices or denounce the alarming legislation targeting transgender youth and their supporters. Instead, she saw an opportunity to ride on Jenner’s coattails to amplify her own agenda.
Social media users quickly called out Lahren’s inconsistency. One user pointed out that Lahren opposes transgender youth accessing hormone blockers and therapy, questioning her motivations for waving a transgender flag. Another user compiled tweets showcasing Lahren’s ignorance and lack of real concern for fighting against transphobia.
The one constant about Tomi Lahren is her self-serving nature. Her lack of personal growth, hypocrisy, and incessant need for attention remain unchanged. Don’t let her finger-wagging fool you: she is still a transphobic figure who doesn’t genuinely care about transgender individuals or Caitlyn Jenner. Lahren is simply in search of someone to echo her political beliefs, regardless of their identity.
