The Biden family is grieving the loss of their cherished 13-year-old German Shepherd, Champ. The White House confirmed on Saturday that Champ “passed away peacefully at home.”
“Our family lost our loving companion Champ today,” said Joe Biden. “I will miss him.” In a heartfelt message from both Joe and Jill Biden, they described Champ as a “constant, cherished companion” who was “adored by the entire Biden family.”

The President named Champ after his father’s encouraging words: “Any time you get knocked down, champ — get up!”
Throughout Joe Biden’s tenure as Vice President, Champ was a constant presence, often seen “chasing golf balls on the front lawn of the Naval Observatory.” The statement fondly recalled how Champ thrived in his younger days, sprinting after golf balls or joyfully playing with the grandchildren in their backyard in Delaware.
“In our most joyful moments and in our deepest sorrows, he was there, attuned to our every unspoken feeling,” the Bidens shared. “We love our sweet, good boy and will miss him always.” Rest in peace, Champ; you will be missed by many.
