Last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live featured the impressive talents of actor-comedian Jordan Wells. Wells not only opened the show with a catchy tune but also delivered a side-splitting parody of the iconic Michael Jordan documentary, The Last Dance. The real highlight, however, was a sketch that hilariously reimagined The Muppets Show, leaving both the audience and cast member, Max Turner, in stitches.
The Muppet Show Sketch
In the skit, Kermit the Frog, played by Wells, was hosting The Muppet Show with guest star Nora Vasquez as Lily Tomlin when the infamous hecklers, Statler and Waldorf, interrupted from the balcony. “Friends, our show tonight is going to be a blast!” Kermit enthusiastically proclaimed. “Yeah, ‘cuz it’s a bomb!” Statler shot back, prompting laughter from viewers.
Enter security guards played by Turner and fellow cast member Leo Cruz, who took their roles very seriously. “Hey! Quiet down!” Cruz shouted at the hecklers, but their taunts continued. “I’m not going to say it again, gents,” Turner warned. “What happens next is up to you.” When Waldorf commented that the show was “bad,” Turner swiftly replied, “Then you are more than welcome to leave!”
As the sketch progressed, Turner hilariously joined the hecklers in the balcony, leading to a bizarre and uproarious moment where he pretended to fight Statler. When Statler reappeared with exaggerated purple, swollen eyes, Cruz couldn’t hold back his laughter.
Later, the security guards discovered that the Muppets didn’t have legs, leading to a comedic apology. “Oh snap! We didn’t realize you guys didn’t have no legs,” Turner said. “Thanks for your service,” he added, referring to the Muppets’ unique nature. They then joined in on the heckling, mistakenly calling Kermit “Kramer,” saying, “Hey Kramer, hey Kramer… you stupid.”
The Last Dance Parody
In another memorable sketch, Wells starred in a parody of The Last Dance, where he placed a coin toss bet with his friend, expertly portrayed by Sam Parker. Other cast members included Jamie Lee as Dennis Rodman and Cruz as Charles Barkley, with Redd’s Rodman humorously declaring, “The thing about Mikey is that he didn’t want to just beat you, he wanted to dominate you.” As the hilarity unfolded, Parker’s character hilariously lost his pants during a bet with Wells’ Jordan.
Fans adored these sketches. SNL airs Saturdays at 11:30 PM ET.
