Stay Composed: American Girl Is Reviving Its Iconic 6 Original Dolls

American Girl is celebrating its 35th anniversary by reintroducing its six original dolls: Samantha, Molly, and the rest of the beloved collection. If you were like me and grew up in the ’90s with a budget-conscious parent who nearly fainted at the price of these dolls, you probably longed for one for years (trust me, it stung a bit when my mom later bought my daughter Molly along with two other AG dolls… but I’m totally over it). Now, as parents ourselves, we can rejoice in the return of these classic dolls, perfect for both our kids and our own nostalgic hearts—because let’s face it, we have adult money now (unless, of course, a car breaks down or a child needs braces. Ugh!).

The original dolls—Samantha Parkington, Kirsten Larson, Molly McIntire, Felicity Merriman, Addy Walker, and Josefina Montoya—are now available for purchase on the American Girl website and are just as enchanting as we remember from our childhood. Each doll is priced at $150, a much more accessible option than the steep prices seen on eBay or at garage sales for those lucky enough to come across them.

“For 35 years, American Girl has crafted empowering stories featuring intelligent, brave heroines that have influenced an entire generation of women,” said Clara Sutherland, General Manager of American Girl, in a press release. “As we celebrate this significant milestone, we are excited to honor the first generation of American girls who cherished these iconic characters and contributed to their legacy. We look forward to fostering memorable, multi-generational experiences for families through their shared love for the brand. Our goal is to continue inspiring the next generation with relevant products, immersive experiences, and timeless narratives.”

Each doll is part of a special 35th Anniversary Collection, which includes the original outfit, authentic accessories, and the character’s first paperback book featuring a vintage cover. They also come packaged in a collectible, retro-style box. Yes, please!

The brand has planned additional anniversary content and experiences, including an advice book featuring the voices of the American Girls, a digital album with character-inspired songs, and a virtual cupcake-decorating event on May 8th with Bobbie Lloyd, Chief Baking Officer at Magnolia Bakery.

While receiving my cherished Molly doll in my late 30s (or Samantha, which I would’ve happily accepted) may not replicate the excitement of unboxing her in 1992, it will certainly be a wonderful experience. Thanks to American Girl, we now have an opportunity to relive our childhood dreams.
