These Boudoir Photos Take the Crown for ‘Best Use of a T-Rex Costume’

A Roaring Good Time

Even though they’ve been extinct for millions of years, T-Rex costumes are making a surprising appearance at weddings and engagement shoots. However, it’s Sarah Thompson from Calgary, Canada, who truly stands out with her creative boudoir photos featuring this iconic dinosaur outfit.

In a conversation with Modern Family Blog, Thompson shared her desire to add a humorous twist to her boudoir session. “A friend from my parenting group playfully mentioned she had done a T-Rex boudoir shoot, and with my wedding approaching, I thought it would be a blast to do something similar,” she explained.

Her friend, fellow mom group member Jessica Martin from Martin Photography, eagerly accepted the challenge and even provided the costume. “I met Sarah online through our cross-Canada parenting group four years ago,” Jessica recounted. “I’ve been photographing her family since her son was born. She wanted to do something unique for her husband on their wedding day. We were brainstorming ideas for boudoir pictures, and I remembered my husband had an inflatable dinosaur costume from Halloween.”

This is the essence of supportive mom groups—lifting each other during challenging parenting moments and enthusiastically participating when a friend wants to embrace her playful side in sexy dinosaur attire.

A Hilarious Photoshoot Experience

Jessica described the shoot as both entertaining and chaotic. “I’ve never done anything like this before,” she said. “It was one of the most amusing experiences I’ve had, especially since Sarah struggled to move around in the suit. There was a lot of flailing and laughter. At one point, I had to pause because I was laughing so hard that mascara was running into my eyes.”

While boudoir sessions typically evoke a sultry vibe, Sarah found donning a T-Rex costume to be quite the opposite. “It was sweltering in that suit!” she recalled. “And moving around was incredibly awkward.”

The photoshoot took place while her fiancé was away at his bachelor party, but her three-year-old son almost ruined the surprise. “My son Jamie thought it was hilarious to see me in the costume. He nearly let the cat out of the bag when Chris got home by saying ‘Mommy’s a dinosaur!’” she laughed. “Thankfully, our bathroom has a dinosaur theme, so I quickly said we were just playing pretend.”

Sarah and her husband Chris tied the knot on July 1st, stepping into married life as true newlyweds. Although she was excited to unveil the photos to her husband, the reveal didn’t unfold as anticipated. Sarah had prepared a photo book that she gifted Chris before the wedding, but when he stumbled upon some candid boudoir shots at the front, he closed it to avoid showing them to his groomsmen.

Fortunately, when he finally got around to looking through it, he couldn’t stop laughing. “He laughed for about half an hour,” she shared. “He said he should have kept reading when he saw the picture of me pretending to pick my teeth among the more traditional photos.”

While most family members found the idea amusing, not everyone was on board. “My one-year-old son, Ethan, was nine months old at the time and did not seem impressed with the costume at all,” she added.

Yes, a dino-themed boudoir shoot might be considered over-the-top, but it’s a fun way to express oneself. There’s no need to strike pouty poses, no worries about where to hide the photos as the kids grow up, and most importantly—your husband will never forget that he married a true ‘sexy beast.’
