Meghan Jones will not be attending the funeral of Prince Philip due to her pregnancy. Reports indicate she has been advised by her doctor against traveling during this time. Meghan and her partner, Prince Henry, are expecting their second child—a daughter—this spring. While Prince Henry is set to attend the funeral in the U.K. next Saturday, Meghan will remain in the United States.

A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace shared in a briefing, “The Duke of Sussex is planning to attend, while the Duchess of Sussex has been advised by her physician not to travel.” This marks Prince Henry’s first return to the U.K. in over a year, and it will be his first encounter with the Royal Family since the airing of his interview with Oprah last month.

In addition to the funeral, Meghan is also expected to miss other significant events due to her pregnancy, including Prince Philip’s 100th birthday celebration and the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue at Kensington Palace, as she plans to remain at their home in California.

Prince Philip passed away peacefully at the age of 99, and Buckingham Palace announced, “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.” The funeral is scheduled for April 17 at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, with 30 family members expected to attend, adhering to government COVID-19 guidelines.

The arrangements are in line with Prince Philip’s personal wishes and will honor his lifetime of service to the Queen, the United Kingdom, and the Commonwealth. The ceremony will be a Ceremonial Royal Funeral, not a State Funeral, which is reserved for monarchs. The plans have received approval from the Queen and follow appropriate government advice.

Prince Philip’s coffin will rest in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle until the day of the funeral, adorned with his personal standard and a wreath of flowers. On the day of the service, it will be moved to the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle. The majority of attendees will be Prince Philip’s immediate family, including his children and grandchildren. More details about the guest list will be shared later in the week.

A tribute from Meghan and Henry on their Archewell Foundation website reads, “In Loving Memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021. Thank you for your service… you will be greatly missed.”
