Small Dog in Need of a New Home: Meet Prancer!

If you’re looking for a unique challenge, consider adopting Prancer, a 2-year-old Chihuahua. This spirited little guy comes with a rather honest description: he’s a bit neurotic and tends to dislike men and children. While you might think this sounds like a tough sell, his current foster mom, Laura Jennings, is determined to find him the right forever home.

Prancer is currently residing with a loving but weary family in New Jersey. “I truly believe there’s someone out there who can handle Prancer, because my family and I are ready for a break,” Jennings shared on social media, providing an unusually candid take on Prancer’s personality.

Described as embodying the essence of a Chihuahua meme—50% fury and 50% quivering—Prancer has had quite the journey. He arrived at the foster home a bit overweight, dressed in a cashmere sweater, with a delightful snack of bacon, egg, and cheese nestled in his crate. His previous owner, an elderly woman, treated him more like a human companion than a pet, which has left him fearful and unaccustomed to social interactions.

In his first week in foster care, Prancer was too anxious to show his true self, and Jennings humorously noted she found him easier to manage that way. “I’m starting to think he’s not just a dog, but perhaps the spirit of a troubled Victorian child,” she quipped.

Prancer is particularly fond of women, but he has a strong aversion to men—“He dislikes them more than most women do, which is saying something,” Jennings explained. If you have a male partner, this might not be the match for you.

Despite his quirks, Prancer has some admirable qualities: he’s loyal, protective, and house-trained. However, he does not get along with other animals. “If you have pets, don’t bother applying unless you want to witness a fur-flying showdown,” Jennings added.

Prancer also prefers a child-free environment. “He’s never encountered children, but I can already picture the chaos that would ensue if he did,” she stated. Essentially, Prancer craves to be the sole focus of your attention.

The perfect candidate for Prancer would be a single woman, a mother and daughter duo, or a same-sex couple. He would thrive in a home where he wouldn’t have to share his space or be exposed to large gatherings. “If you have guests over, you’d need to keep him out of sight, like a vacuum cleaner,” Jennings noted.

If you fit the bill and are interested in Prancer, he is available through the Second Chance Pet Adoption League.
