When it comes to childbirth, some stories truly stand out, and this one definitely falls under the category of “That’s a whole lot of baby!” Recently, the world has witnessed some impressively large newborns, including a 14-pound baby from Melbourne, Australia, and another weighing 13.5 pounds from Keystone Heights, Florida. However, one mother from Indiana took it to the next level, announcing, “I’ll see your hefty infants and raise you one 16-pound newborn.”

Yes, you read that correctly! This remarkable mother welcomed a 16-pound baby into the world.

Whitney Thompson, a 28-year-old mom, was aware she would be having a big baby. Diagnosed with gestational diabetes during her pregnancy, a condition that often leads to larger babies, she had already experienced previous deliveries of 8 pounds, 8 ounces, 11 pounds, 1 ounce, and 9 pounds, 14 ounces. Still, no one anticipated that her newest addition, named Waylon Cole, would tip the scales at 16 pounds. It’s not every day that you hear, “This week, your baby is roughly the size of a small dog!”

“The doctors and nurses were like, ‘Oh my god!’” said the father, Mark Thompson, in an interview. “We ended up weighing him three times because no one could believe he actually weighed 16 pounds. At first, I thought maybe the scale was broken!”

For those expecting mothers out there who may be feeling anxious, rest assured: Waylon was delivered via C-section on May 1st. However, carrying around that much adorable chub for nine months is no small feat. I remember my own experience of being nine months pregnant, struggling just to get out of the car at the grocery store, and my baby weighed only 8 pounds!

Whitney shared with Modern Family Blog that they had to purchase all new clothes and diapers due to Waylon’s size, and while we jest about him getting his driver’s permit soon, it won’t be long before he’s out and about.

“He sleeps more than our other babies did, but he’s healthy. When he’s awake, he’s alert and smiles. He’s a happy boy,” Mark mentioned. Although Waylon, who is about the size of a small pug or a 19-inch flat-screen TV, is thriving at home, he did spend seven weeks in the NICU for some breathing and feeding challenges. “The NICU stay was tough leaving him there while caring for my other children, maintaining the house, and balancing work,” Whitney told Modern Family Blog.

We’re thrilled to know baby Waylon is back home and doing well. Also, let’s not forget to give this incredible mom a medal for her achievement!
