Recent surveys reveal that younger adults are showing a reluctance to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. A new study indicates that individuals aged 18 to 34, including Gen Z and younger millennials, are considerably less inclined to get vaccinated compared to older age groups.
A Quinnipiac University poll found that while 68% of Americans either plan to or have already received a COVID-19 vaccine, a notable 27% of the population do not intend to get vaccinated. Alarmingly, among those under 35, 36% expressed that they do not plan to receive the vaccine, a figure significantly higher than the average for all adults. In states like Michigan, where there is a surge in infections, the highest rates have been reported among those in their 20s. “We are witnessing an increase in COVID-19 cases and emergency room visits among younger adults, many of whom remain unvaccinated,” stated CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky recently.
Data also indicates that younger adults are less likely to practice social distancing, a trend echoed by social media influencers and celebrities who have been seen partying throughout the pandemic.
