The woman seated behind my husband made a comment when my daughter was merely trying to entertain her little brother, asking, ‘Is that absolutely necessary?’” To which her husband responded, “Well, there are many things three-year-olds do that aren’t absolutely necessary.”
Known for her role as the intelligent and fierce Laurel Castillo on the popular ABC show How to Get Away with Murder, Karla, a mother of two, is fiercely protective of her children, Emma and Felix. She is still upset over the incident, especially considering the challenges of flying with children during a pandemic. She expected a bit more understanding from fellow travelers but didn’t find it.

By week two, I was just exhausted. I went from being a no-screens mom to letting my kids watch movies—at least they were in Spanish!” she shares.
While Home Economics is a comedy, Karla is aware of the serious implications of the pandemic, especially for women who’ve faced job losses and economic hardships. She emphasizes that while the show touches on financial struggles, it doesn’t delve deeply into the real-world issues many people are facing.
Karla believes it’s essential for women to discuss financial topics openly, something that is often seen as taboo. “In my family, we talked about money freely, but my husband’s family avoids it. I don’t understand why such an important subject is so often left unspoken,” she explains.
