As we eagerly await President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration this month, his rescue dog, Major, is set to have a delightful celebration of his own: an “Indoguration” on January 17. This special event, hosted by Major’s former shelter, the Delaware Humane Association (DHA) in Wilmington, will be live-streamed for dog lovers everywhere to join in for a small fee.
“From being a shelter pup at the Delaware Humane Association to becoming the First Dog at the White House, Major Biden embodies the American dream for dogs,” said DHA. “To mark this significant Indoguration and to raise funds for more rescue animals like Major, DHA and Pumpkin Pet Insurance are joining forces to create the world’s largest virtual party for dogs!”
The event will be co-hosted by Jill Martin from the Today Show and will feature special appearances by Beaux and Paws, a young entrepreneur and animal advocate. Participants will even have the chance to nominate their own dogs to join Major’s “Cabinet” as the “Secretary of Rescue Dogs,” with a winner selected by Brown.
DHA’s executive director, Patrick J. Carroll, expressed excitement about the event, hoping it will be the largest Zoom gathering for dogs. “2020 was a challenging year for both shelters and pet owners. Here at DHA, our mission is to create ‘friends for life’ by connecting people with animals. With Major heading to the White House, we hope to connect even more homeless pets with loving families. If a rescue dog is good enough for the White House, they’re certainly good enough for your home!”
The Bidens adopted Major, a German Shepherd, in November 2018, expressing gratitude to the Delaware Humane Association for their efforts in finding him a forever home. When they move into the White House, Major will be the first rescue dog to live there, alongside the Bidens’ other dog, Champ.
Major Biden’s Indoguration Party, co-hosted by Pumpkin Pet Insurance, will take place on January 17 at 3 p.m. ET. To RSVP, visit DHA’s website, where a donation of $10 or more is requested to participate, with all proceeds benefiting the shelter. So far, over $22,000 has been raised for the cause.
