In our experience, a decade of marriage mirrors our wedding day, just with fewer sweets and a lot more little ones. Sure, there’s a bit more bickering, but thankfully, much less crying.
Isn’t it incredible how swiftly time flies? It feels like everything evolves while remaining constant at the same time. Sharing life with a partner for ten years has been a phenomenal journey. We’ve gathered plenty of insights on what works (like labeling your toothbrush) and what doesn’t (like consuming all the beans—which sparked our most notorious disagreement). Despite the ups and downs, I still adore the person I fell in love with at the tender age of 20—can you believe we were practically kids?
To celebrate our anniversary, we decided to recreate some of our cherished wedding photos to reflect our lives now, 3,652 days later. While the essence remains, our surroundings tell a different story. Gone are the romantic candlelit evenings atop a hill; instead, we find ourselves navigating through laundry piles and the chaos of Nerf guns. Surprisingly, those Nerf guns add a layer of fun!
These days, I’m not holding bouquets—I’m lifting children, groceries, and sometimes hammers. At least they last longer than the groceries!
Moments of gazing into each other’s eyes have become rarer, although he does help me out by removing food from my hair when it gets stuck. He’s also my go-to for zipping up my dresses and reminding me when I have lipstick on my teeth—now that’s true love!
While we don’t dance as often as we used to, we still find time to sway when our favorite song plays. Champagne toasts have become infrequent, but we celebrate with “sandwich cheers!” and “milk cheers!” instead.
Gone are the hilltop snuggles, replaced by playful winks and hand squeezes that still make my heart flutter. We’ve also gained a few extra feet in our family, and every little toe is a blessing.
As practical as lying in a field sounds, finding the time for it is a challenge. Nowadays, when we do lie down, it often results in a toddler dive-bombing us or one of us dozing off in two minutes flat.
Our symbolic love tree, which I insisted on planting instead of a unity candle on our wedding day, has sadly passed away. Just two years in, it met its demise thanks to our local brush-hogger.
Our marriage may not be perfect, and everyday life isn’t always glamorous, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything—except maybe that tree.
