What on earth is happening with this real estate listing?
At first glance, a charming home in Cayce, South Carolina, appears to be an absolute bargain. This quaint property features an attic apartment and a separate backyard cottage—all for just $130,000, significantly lower than similar homes in the area.
However, there’s a catch. It seems that a rather unfriendly spirit or possibly a disgruntled tenant is residing in the upstairs unit, and they have no intention of leaving. The listing provides a rather eerie warning: “Please read carefully before scheduling showings,” followed by a description of the property as a diamond in the rough investment. Then it gets interesting: “The upstairs apartment cannot be shown under any circumstances. The buyer assumes responsibility for the month-to-month tenancy in the upstairs apartment. The occupant has never paid rent, and no security deposit is held, but there is a lease in place. (Yes, it does not make sense, please don’t ask.)”
You read that right—no rent, no deposit, and this mysterious tenant won’t budge. And as if that weren’t enough, there are unsettling signs of life from above:

The upstairs occupant’s presence is felt in more ways than one, with occasional disturbances coming from the ceiling. The property is being sold “as-is,” meaning no repairs will be made, and don’t even think about trying to fix things yourself—this is a deal you might want to reconsider.
Then there’s this delightful door leading to the attic apartment—a door you should never hope to open. Is that blood or just some questionable paint? Why is my heart racing?
On the bright side, there’s a lovely fire pit in the backyard, and a pole that could be used for whatever ritual this tenant requires to finally get your listing back on Zillow. You might also want to offer a few prayers to break this curse and escape your new horror-cottage.
Of course, there’s a bit of water damage on the ceiling from whatever chaos is happening upstairs, but it’s just a cosmetic issue, so no need to worry.
The property boasts a staircase leading to the upstairs apartment, but heed this warning: never use it. And let’s not forget the lovely kitchen filled with natural light.
While the listing states, “Little is known about condition except that property has active roof leaks. Property is being sold ‘as-is’ with no repairs, clean-up, or warranties expressed or implied,” it’s hard to ignore the hidden terrors lurking above. But overall—a great deal if you can handle the spooks!
