Dear Little One,
I may not know your journey or who you are, and perhaps I never will. Yet, I hold onto hope that you will achieve remarkable things in your life. All you need is a fighting chance, right? So, muster your strength, sweet child. Whatever challenges you face, fight with all your might.
And your dear Mama—my heart goes out to her. I cannot imagine the weight she carries while watching you struggle. You both deserve a little help, and if my breast milk can provide that, it brings me immense joy. The countless hours I’ve dedicated to pumping, cleaning, and packaging this milk for you have been truly worth it.
Many people misunderstand donor milk. There’s a stigma attached; some see it as something undesirable or view accepting it as a sign of defeat. Yet so many mothers wish to nourish their babies with breast milk but are unable to do so for various reasons. That’s where donors like me come in.
I draw inspiration from NICU babies and their families, like you. My friend, Jessica, works as a pediatric nurse, and while she cannot share specific stories, she has told me how even an ounce of breast milk can make a significant difference for little fighters like you. It brings comfort and strength that words cannot describe.
Somewhere out there, a parent is feeling deep pain, watching their child battle for life through a glass barrier, feeding them with a tiny syringe, unsure if the next meal is guaranteed. As I pump during the quiet hours of the night, while my family sleeps, I think of you and them. Each moment spent with the machine, each count and each clean-up, is filled with thoughts and prayers for you all. Yes, it requires immense effort, but every ounce is worth it.
Globally, over 15 million babies are born prematurely each year, with around 500,000 in the U.S. alone. Those born between 37 weeks are “moderate to late” preemies, while those born between 28-32 weeks are labeled as “very preterm.” The “extremely preterm” category includes babies born at 28 weeks or less, and “micro preemies” are those weighing less than 1.75 pounds or born at 26 weeks or earlier.
These precious little ones spend their early days in incubators, surrounded by beeping machines and bright lights, connected to various tubes and cared for by dedicated medical professionals. The NICU is often the last place any parent wishes to be, and the longing to take their baby home is overwhelming. Research shows that breast milk is packed with nutrients, antibiotics, and stem cells that provide incredible long-term benefits for preterm infants.
So, take my milk. Fight. Grow strong and become everything you were meant to be! I believe in you.
To all the parents out there, remember that it truly takes a village. To those brave parents with little ones in the NICU, know that I am silently cheering for you every step of the way. I can’t wait to see the amazing person your baby will become!
With love,

In summary, breastfeeding is a vital part of nurturing preterm infants, providing them with essential nutrients and support. As a milk donor, my commitment to helping NICU babies is driven by a desire to make a difference in their lives, and I stand in solidarity with all parents navigating this challenging journey.
