It doesn’t matter what time I show up, whether I’m arriving solo or after a night of laughter with friends. It doesn’t even matter if the sidelines are bustling with parents eager to chat. When game time rolls around, I choose to sit alone.
Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m not anti-social! In fact, I love engaging with other parents and cheering for all the kids. I enjoy exchanging greetings and making small talk. However, when the whistle blows and the game begins, my focus shifts entirely to my child.
The truth is, the days may be long, but the years fly by. I remember those weekends filled with back-to-back games, feeling overwhelmed by the chaos. Now, I would give anything for those days back—traveling in our SUV packed with gear and snacks. These moments are precious, and I want to soak them all in.
My kids are now old enough to drive themselves to their games, but you’ll still find me there, ready with my camera. I miss those early mornings filled with blanket packing and snack prep; the excitement of being at the field for hours. Yet, I still opt to sit alone.
