In a recent social media misstep, Paul Ryan, the former Speaker of the House, found himself in hot water after promoting the benefits of the new tax plan. While President Trump has been busy praising the tax changes as a boon for the average American, many believe the reality is that the wealthy are the primary beneficiaries. Ryan’s attempt to showcase the tax plan backfired spectacularly.
It’s one thing to be slightly out of touch, but Ryan’s tweet was something else entirely. He shared a story about a school secretary from Lancaster, PA, who expressed her surprise at receiving a pay increase of $1.50 per week. “A secretary at a public high school in Lancaster, PA, said she was pleasantly surprised her pay went up $1.50 a week … she said [that] will more than cover her Costco membership for the year,” Ryan stated.
