She went in for nursing bras but left with a newborn!

While many of us thrill at the prospect of a shopping spree at Target, one expectant mother experienced much more than just retail therapy—she went into labor right in the middle of the store! As if that wasn’t extraordinary enough, a labor nurse was shopping nearby and stepped in to help deliver the baby.

Best. Target trip. Ever.

Meet Sarah Green, the mom who took her love for Target to a whole new level. Although she didn’t plan to give birth there, we think she deserves some free goodies or at least a mountain of coupons from her favorite retailer! Piedmont Healthcare posted a heartwarming story about their nurse, Jessica Taylor, who sprang into action when Sarah went into active labor. “An ordinary shopping trip transformed into a remarkable event when fellow shopper Sarah Green began having her baby right at the entrance of the store,” they shared.

Can you even fathom it? One moment you’re reminding yourself to grab “paper towels,” and suddenly—surprise! A baby!

Jessica Taylor was at Target to buy shoes with her mother when they encountered Sarah. According to local news, Jessica’s mom, Linda Hughes, noticed that Sarah looked uncomfortable and suggested her daughter might be able to help. “She said, ‘Hey, you don’t look so good. Do you want my daughter, the labor and delivery nurse, to assist?’” Sarah recalled.

In a twist of fate, Sarah intended to shop for nursing bras but ended up delivering her fourth child instead. “I honestly didn’t realize I was in active labor,” she explained. As she headed towards the bra section, her contractions intensified. They had been spaced out an hour apart before arriving at the store, but once they started again, little Maleek made his entrance just 20 minutes later.

“I didn’t expect her to deliver so quickly, but then she had a really strong contraction and her water broke. As a labor nurse, I recognized what was happening,” Jessica said. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Jessica and her mother were trying to get Sarah to the hospital when it became clear that there was no time to waste. “We urged her friend to get the car ready at the entrance and helped her walk outside, but just as we got to the door, her water broke,” Linda added.

“Jessica was absolutely incredible. She was caring and went above and beyond,” Sarah expressed, grateful that her birth story is gaining attention so Jessica can receive the recognition she deserves. “I’m thrilled because Jessica truly deserves this spotlight.”

Happily, the birth of little Maleek seems to have sparked a budding friendship between the two families. “We feel so fortunate to have been a part of this experience,” says Linda. “We’ve visited them in the hospital and at home, and we’re excited about the lifelong friendship we’re building. They’ve become like family to us!”
