Finally, you can indulge your little ones with Kinder Eggs without feeling like you’re sneaking in forbidden treats! A chocolate shell concealing a surprise toy—what child wouldn’t be thrilled? Unfortunately, the combination of small toys within food raised concerns, leading to the ban of Kinder Surprise eggs in the U.S. back in the 1970s, shortly after they were introduced by the Italian company Ferrero.
While some daring shop owners have continued to sell them, purchasing these treats often comes with a side of guilt: “Should I really buy these for my kids knowing they’re illegal?” Or you might buy them anyway, anxiously watching your child as you worry about becoming that infamous story: “That mom bought a Kinder Surprise egg and almost harmed her child!”
But rejoice! Ferrero is now introducing Kinder Joy eggs to the U.S. market. While they may not be quite as enchanting as the original version, they’re a welcome addition nonetheless. The Kinder Joy eggs come in two separate compartments: one houses a toy, while the other contains delicious wafer balls and chocolate cream, complete with a tiny spoon. Your kids are still going to adore them, and you can finally let go of the anxiety of feeling like a criminal bringing contraband into your home.
Personally, I’ve always had a bit of a phobia about choking, which kept me from buying Kinder Surprise eggs. It’s funny considering I grew up in the 70s, when my aunt would bake a dime into our birthday cakes for “good luck.” We all secretly wished to be the kid who bit down on that dirty coin hidden in the lemon bundt. Ah, simpler times! Now, I can offer my kids a fun treat without the added worry of choking hazards. It’s a win-win!
