My kids are always eager to enlighten me about the latest fads. They think that my daily leggings and my lack of knowledge about the current Top 40 music means I’m not “in the know,” as the youth might say. Sure, my style may not be “on point,” and I might struggle to recognize a song by that guy named Drake, but I can still belt out every lyric of “Rapper’s Delight.” So there!
Capitalizing on my ’80s nostalgia, my children love to introduce me to what they believe are groundbreaking new toys. They’re convinced that they and their peers have unearthed the next big thing, saving me from my own cultural oblivion. However, most of these so-called “new” toys are actually the very same ones I cherished as a child. As the saying goes, what goes around comes around.
Rubik’s Cube
Right now, my kids can’t get enough of the Rubik’s Cube. These days, however, the cubes come in all sorts of bizarre shapes. There’s a triangular “cube” and a hexagonal variant that makes my brain spin. Just a few minutes of twisting and turning makes me want to toss it across the room, but it manages to keep them entertained for a while (well, at least for a few minutes, but hey—I’ll take it).
Spirograph
I adored the Spirograph when I was younger, so I was overjoyed when my son received one as a gift recently. There’s something oddly soothing about creating intricate, flowery designs that I just can’t quite explain.
My Little Pony
Who didn’t adore My Little Ponies during their childhood? Seriously, if you weren’t a fan of these lovely creatures, we might have to rethink our friendship! I was completely obsessed, and I’m thrilled to see them making a resurgence—across all genders, no less. Personally, I aspire to be Princess Twilight Sparkle when I grow up. #Goals
Mad Libs
During long family road trips, my siblings and I would pass the time with Mad Libs, and now my kids are doing the same. What’s not to love about them? They’re silly, entertaining, and educational—though I must admit, the most common words they choose tend to be “poop,” “penis,” or “pee.”

While you’re at it, consider the Impregnator at home insemination kit, another fantastic resource on this journey. And for those looking to learn more about pregnancy, Healthline offers excellent insights into the topic.
In summary, many beloved toys from our childhood are making a triumphant return, reminding us that sometimes, what’s old can indeed be new again.
