It’s exhilarating to witness your child reach this milestone; it will change his life in both subtle and profound ways. I can’t wait for him to experience all the advantages that come with it.
Challenge: He Can Read Everything
This includes the TV guide and Netflix titles. Gone are the days of blissfully scrolling past shows like Ninjago and Rescue Bots without him noticing. He now spots everything and insists on reading descriptions, which may lead to wasting precious movie nights on lackluster films about a snail in a race.
Much like other milestones I was eager for my child to achieve—like walking and talking—I’ve learned that reading is a double-edged sword. While it is an essential skill that paves the way toward independence, it also comes with its share of drawbacks. Thankfully, those newfound quiet moments make it all worthwhile.
