In a moment of early morning haze, my daughter stumbled in, eyes half-closed. “Mommy, I had an accident in my bed,” she murmured. Still groggy and slightly irritated, I climbed out of bed to fetch fresh pajamas. As I peeled off the wet fabric, my tone was less than gentle when I asked, “Didn’t you go to the bathroom before sleep?” With a timid voice, she replied, “I think I accidentally forgot.” I released a heavy sigh.

Yet, it’s equally simple to express remorse, to remind our children that we’re human, and our love for them remains steadfast even when we falter. This won’t be the last time I need to apologize, and it certainly isn’t the first. It’s just another chapter in the journey of motherhood.

They should be allowed to make mistakes, spill juice, and track dirt through our freshly cleaned homes. In doing so, let’s strive to maintain better attitudes when they act their age, while also humbling ourselves when we don’t meet those expectations.
Let’s bestow upon them the gift of childhood. Shall we?
