Mothers, This Is When You Need to Let Them Soar

You believed you had severed the ties. You hadn’t. Your son, now nearing 20, moved in with his father during his senior year, a decision that felt like a dagger to your heart. You thought that was the moment of release. It wasn’t.
Dropping him off at his dorm felt monumental. “This is it,” you told yourself, “I am truly letting him go!” But deep down, you knew you were still holding on, your tears a testament to that, as memories of his tiny hand clasped in yours flashed through your mind.
He confides in you his desire to leave college behind to chase his dreams in Chicago. The passion for acting and theatre burns so fiercely within him that it overshadows everything else. He yearns to find a job, save up, and head to Chicago without delay.
“Mom, this is it,” he insists.

“Where is your optimism?!” he would question.
“Why so glum, Mom?” he would tease in a playful accent, coaxing a laugh through your tears. With a gentle touch on your shoulder, he’d remind you, “I need chips and laundry detergent.”
But in those moments, you must ask yourself: Where is your faith? Where is your belief in his potential? He can not only succeed; he can thrive. This world may seem daunting, but it is filled with possibilities.
Let him shine. Let him go.
