My Personal Home Makeover Obsession: HGTV

I promise I’m not into adult content! Honestly, I’ve never subscribed to those specialty channels—even during hotel stays—and my online browsing is as family-friendly as it gets. Why shell out for outdated adult entertainment when you can indulge in the fresh, captivating, and entirely PG version for free? Just flip to channel 665 (HGTV in HD on my set), and you’ll see what I mean.

Once you tune in, you’ll get lost in a realm of stunning soapstone countertops, sleek subway tile backsplashes, and charmingly eclectic wooden floors that invite you into the coziest of entryways. And don’t even get me started on those walk-in closets! Custom shoe racks and perfectly organized spaces make my heart race.

I often find myself glued to the screen at night, anxiously awaiting the verdict on whether an adorable family of three (soon to expand) will choose to Love It or List It. I’m typically rooting for “love it.” Who wouldn’t be amazed by the transformation of a dreary basement into a chic game room, guest suite, and spa-like bathroom? It’s pure magic!

Then there’s the enchanting work of the Property Brothers, who effortlessly turn a drab 1970s Cape Cod into a delightful haven for a couple eager for city life while still having room for their dogs, a yoga studio, and a music room. All that and on a budget that might barely cover a new HVAC system—if I’m lucky! Plus, the speed at which they work is downright impressive—let’s just say it took me longer to tackle my garage last spring.

While I might not always agree with the design choices of my favorite HGTV stars, I can’t help but admire their creativity. Media rooms, expansive garages, and custom fire pits may not be my style, but I appreciate that they bring joy to others.

I know I’m not alone in my obsession. A recent girls’ night with college friends led to a lengthy discussion about our latest binge-worthy shows. A few even introduced me to new guilty pleasures like Rehab Addict and Fixer Upper. Have you seen how the Addict revamps fireplaces? It’s borderline illegal!

Though I could definitely find more productive ways to spend my time, there are worse habits to have, right? For now, I’ll continue to indulge in my HGTV fix until the House Hunters inevitably find the perfect beachside bungalow—at a steal of a price, of course. Works for me!

In summary, I’ve discovered that while I may not partake in the conventional forms of adult entertainment, I find immense joy in the world of home renovations and design on HGTV. It’s a fun escape into creativity that I can’t get enough of!
