Four-year-old Lily adored Curious George. She cherished his stories, his animated adventures, and even her plush monkey replica. So, when her mom and aunt announced a trip to New York City, Lily was convinced they would meet him there. After all, George lived in that bustling metropolis, right? Concerned about her potential letdown, her family brainstormed how to navigate the situation. Ultimately, they told her that most people would be away for the long Labor Day weekend—George probably had plans too. But Lily remained unfazed, brimming with excitement at the thought of meeting her favorite monkey.

They decided to write George a letter: “I’m going to be in your city. Can I see you?” With her family’s help, Lily addressed the envelope to Curious George, c/o The Man in the Yellow Hat, Central Park West, NY, New York. Thrilled with the idea, she agreed it was a brilliant plan.

Once they arrived at their hotel, Lily kept vigil by the window. The next morning, a small gift bag appeared outside their door, accompanied by a card. George had indeed gone out of town but left her a few gifts to enjoy during her visit. “George is so nice,” Lily exclaimed, clutching the bag. Her mom and aunt sighed in relief.

With everyone content, they ventured out to explore the city. They enjoyed a carriage ride through Central Park, then hopped onto a tour bus to see Manhattan. Lily was ecstatic, knowing George had been on a tour bus too. She eagerly sat beside the driver, scanning the surroundings. Grandma and Mom exchanged nervous glances. Suddenly, wide-eyed Lily leaned toward the driver and asked, “Do you know Curious George?”
