Dear Future Daughter,
Hey there, superstar! By the time you read this, you’ll be eighteen and probably rolling your eyes at everything I say. Remember when you thought I was the coolest mom ever? Well, I’m about to share some wisdom before we hit those tumultuous teenage years together—a true roller coaster of emotions, hormones, and that delightful thing called menopause.
Enjoy Life
First things first: life is meant to be enjoyed, so don’t forget to let loose every now and then. Go ahead and have a wild night out with your friends—just be sure to keep it safe. I can’t stress this enough: don’t walk home alone, don’t drive under the influence, and definitely don’t end up with a guy who looks like a Greek god. Sure, he might be easy on the eyes, but think about the baggage that might come with him. Not to be graphic, but no one wants unwanted surprises lurking around. Don’t let a hangover become your worst problem; trust me, waking up regretting a poor choice is much worse.
Cherish Friendships
Speaking of friends, cherish those connections during your twenties. This is the time to bond over all the ridiculous adventures you’ll have. Trust me, changing diapers is a different kind of bonding—one that lacks the thrill of sneaking into a bar or dancing like no one’s watching. Make the most of your youthful escapades while you can!
Career Considerations
Now let’s talk about careers. Sure, follow your passion, but remember to consider flexibility. If you plan on having a family someday (and I hope you do!), finding a job that allows you to work from home can be a game changer. You’ll want to avoid high-pressure jobs like investment banking if your goal is to juggle a family life. It’s all about balance, darling.
Relationships
And about relationships—brace yourself. You’ll encounter a few not-so-great partners along the way. They might ghost you or break your heart with a text message. But don’t worry; they’re just stepping stones helping you realize what you truly want in a partner. One day, you’ll want someone who loves every part of you, even when gravity starts to take its toll.
Unconditional Love
Above all, remember this: no matter how distant we may feel at times, I’m here for you. You can talk to me about anything, and I mean anything. I might not always have the right answers, but I promise I’ll always listen. Whether you need a comforting hug or a pint of ice cream, I’ll be there for you.
With all my love,
Mom (or whatever name you decide to call me!)
