The Thanksgiving Initiative kicked off three years ago with just a few families in need. A group of mothers bravely shared their stories of struggling to afford Thanksgiving meals, and a compassionate community of readers came together to offer support. No one aimed to change the world; we simply wanted to uplift the lives of those around us.
And then, something incredible happened.
More families reached out to share their hardships, and even more supporters stepped up to help, contributing amounts ranging from a dollar to several hundred. Thanks to this growing network of kindness, over four hundred families enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast they might have otherwise missed, leading to the establishment of our nonprofit organization.
Every day, we celebrate diverse perspectives from mothers everywhere. Despite our differences, the bond of a mother’s love for her children is a universal truth. What could be more inherently nurturing than the desire to provide for one’s family?
That’s the essence of the Thanksgiving Initiative. The well-being of our children and the challenges we face unite this community. To date, more than 4,500 families have benefited from our efforts, with 2,765 applications fulfilled last year alone. Now, it’s time to do it all again.
