As I prepare to return to work on Monday (cue the tears…), I’ve found myself pondering a few pressing questions over the past few weeks.

  1. Would it be socially acceptable to launch a GoFundMe or Kickstarter to fund my dream of being a stay-at-home mom? And honestly, would anyone chip in?
  2. When is it deemed appropriate to start sipping wine during the workday? Additionally, is it really that terrible to drink wine all day while breastfeeding?
  3. How much productivity can I expect with a 2-month-old attached to me, and is it inappropriate to host a virtual meeting while managing said baby?
  4. Is it acceptable to forego showering and remain in pajamas all day while juggling a full-time job and caring for an infant, plus the school runs for my preschooler?
  5. Can I realistically function on just four hours of sleep each night while balancing a full-time job, an infant, and preschool drop-offs and pickups?
  6. What are my chances of winning the lottery to achieve financial independence?
  7. How crucial is it for me to maintain my own home? Is it possible to sell everything and move in with my parents along with my two kids and husband to eliminate mortgage stress and allow me to be a stay-at-home mom?
  8. Am I crazy for considering selling all my possessions, quitting my job, and buying an RV to travel the country with my husband and kids?
  9. Is it completely absurd to think about selling everything, quitting my job, and purchasing one-way tickets to Fiji to live there as a stay-at-home mom?
  10. Can my family and I survive in a modest cabin while simplifying our lives so I can leave my job and focus on being a stay-at-home mom?
  11. Is it realistic to finish my book in four days, send it to a publisher, and hope for a lucrative deal to avoid returning to work on Monday?
  12. And lastly, the burning question on my mind: Why are maternity leave policies in the U.S. so inadequate for working mothers, giving us so little time off?
